Today marks the first day of our trekking journey. We head to Tribhuvan Domestic Airport in Kathmandu and catch a flight to Lukla. The flight over the Khumbu region takes only 35 minutes but offers breathtaking views of Nepal’s landscapes—a highlight of this trek. If you’re seated on the left side of the plane, the scenery will be unforgettable. Lukla is a small village inaccessible by road, reachable only by air or foot. We step out of the airport, traverse the cobblestone pathways of the village, and enter the forest trail, officially commencing our trek. Before leaving the village, we must present the first of our two permits at the checkpoint, so remember to keep them handy. Today’s trekking itinerary is relatively easy, requiring only about 3 hours of hiking.
Walking Distance: 10.4 km
Walking Time: 5 to 6 hrs
Today marks the first challenging day of our trek. We start by walking along the banks of the Dudh Kosi River, crossing two famous suspension bridges in Nepal’s trekking history. The trail features a series of small yet repetitive uphill and downhill sections, following the river and passing through the distinctive carved Buddhist stones of the area. We stop for lunch in the village of Monjo, the gateway to Sagarmatha National Park. Here, we present the second of our two permits. Upon entering the park, we descend along a massive wall adorned with prayer inscriptions in Tibetan script, leading to the Bhote Kosi River and the village of Jorsalle. This marks the beginning of all the fun. After walking along the beach-like riverbank and through dense forests, the path becomes steeper. Eventually, we cross the final suspension bridge of the day, which hangs high above a steep gorge, following an 800-meter ascent.
Namche Bazaar is the largest village on this journey, boasting a mountaineering museum, the world’s highest-altitude hotel, and some chain coffee shops. Today’s goal is to help everyone acclimatize to the altitude and reduce the likelihood of altitude sickness. You can visit the Everest View Hotel or the Namche Museum.

Tengboche is a small valley at an altitude of 3,860 meters. The beautiful trail between these two villages begins as we cross Namche on a stone-paved path beside a stream. Thamserku, a stunning peak at 6,608 meters, along with Ama Dablam, one of the most uniquely shaped mountains, are visible upstream in the valley. Mount Everest can be seen from the ridge connecting Lhotse and Nuptse to the south. After trekking for nearly an hour, we come across a massive monastery dedicated to Tenzing Norgay, a name that needs no introduction. The path consists of short uphill sections followed by downhill stretches, allowing for a breath before the next uphill climb. We should arrive at today’s stop by lunchtime.
Walking Distance: 9.1 km
Walking Time: 4 to 5 hrs
Starting from Tengboche, we head to the other side of the ridge, entering a forest of birch and rhododendron trees. From here, it’s nearly 4 kilometers to Dingboche, gaining an altitude of almost 260 meters, which we should reach in less than 2 hours. Pangboche village lies just below the impressive Ama Dablam, offering spectacular mountain views and making it an excellent resting spot. Depending on our arrival time, we may stop for tea or proceed directly to lunch. Mount Everest now disappears from view until we reach the upper part of the Khumbu Valley. During today’s trek, we’ll witness many awe-inspiring peaks, so don’t forget to ask the local guide about each new peak as you gaze out.
We’ll take a short hike around Dingboche village to acclimatize to the altitude, returning to the village in the afternoon to relax.

Today, we start our trek towards Lobuche, located beside the Khumbu Glacier. The initial part of the trek is quite challenging as we must ascend the Dughla Pass (Thukla Pass) before heading to Lobuche. Although this climb is short, it is very steep. However, it provides some of the most unforgettable views of the entire trek. The trail is adorned with memorials dedicated to climbers who strived to make it to this place. Before reaching Lobuche, we will spend some time at the pass; the path after the pass is mostly flat.
Walking Distance: 3.5 km
Walking Time: 3 to 4 hrs
Today’s trail features many undulations before reaching Gorak Shep, most of which are moraine ridges on the famous Khumbu Glacier. Once we reach Gorak Shep, we will have lunch.
Walking Distance: 2 km
Walking Time: 2 to 3 hrs
Today is the most exciting day of the trek! It’s what we’ve been eagerly awaiting throughout our journey. We start early in the morning to hike to Kala Patthar, a spot known for offering the clearest views of Mount Everest along the entire trail. The trek to Kala Patthar is both challenging and rewarding. After reaching Kala Patthar, it becomes clear why Mount Everest is the most popular peak on the planet, attracting some of the most accomplished climbers throughout history. In fact, Kala Patthar is the only place where you can see almost the entire Himalayan range, making this journey exhilarating. It takes about 3 hours to trek from Gorak Shep to Kala Patthar. We can’t spend too much time at the summit as it’s windy, with nothing to shield us from the gusts.
